A young girl’s moral compass is challenged trying to save a brutally wounded rabbit in this wonderfully restrained coming-of-age short from writer and director Meredith Hama-Brown (previously featured here):
“When setting out to make this film, I wanted to convey that moment in one’s life where we first encounter the reality of death. Throughout the film, the protagonist tries to fight against what is inevitable. As adults watching this film, it may be clear to us what needs to happen and so I wanted to tell this story from a disconnected point of view. In my mind, the film isn’t about the ending being a surprise but rather the impending sense of doom that we feel as adults knowing what is coming. For this reason, I chose an objective, detached and almost entirely static camera to highlight the absurdity of the situation.”
