An act of petty crime provides a glimpse into the subtle intricacies of motherhood and family bonds in this lovely short by London-based filmmaker Werner Vivier. Inspired by Werner’s own childhood and memories of everyday outings with his mother, “Winter Coat” aims to highlight the beauty of simple moments and celebrate the relationships between people. As he states:

“With ‘Winter Coat’ I wanted to explore the theme of motherhood: attempting to illustrate whether the same bond could exist in a relationship devoid of blood ties — two neighbors in this instance. We aren’t given the context of their relationship, instead, we step into their lives as voyeurs, listening in on conversations and lurking around corners. As we observe them through their shared experiences, we begin to understand their rapport.”
