Russian filmmaker Daria Geller offers a compelling interpretation of Anton Chekhov’s “He & She” — a 19th century short story consisting of letters between two lovers. In Geller’s modern adaptation, love is depicted as an anti-fairy tale, and far more realistically than the dynamics we have come to expect. Here love and hate are inextricably linked as, in an unfortunate paradox, it is only with the ones we truly love that we feel comfortable enough to show the worst of ourselves.
