A long, dull wait at the hospital becomes an interminable ordeal for a woman in need of help in this moving short by Brooklyn-based writer-director Samantha Scaffidi. While the reason for her visit is unclear, the few nurses on staff tend to people with more visible injuries, giving viewers an intimate perspective into the experience of sexual assault survivors awaiting forensic exam. “Wait” was originally released as a PSA with RAINN. With this version of the film Scaffidi hopes to continue drawing attention to the obstacles faced by those seeking care and justice:

“Due to a shortage of nurses trained to collect forensic evidence, survivors of sexual violence may have to travel long distances, sometimes even out of state, to find a hospital that provides sexual assault forensic exams (commonly known as a rape kit); some wait hours for an exam.”
