A minimalist animation for Adam Ostrar’s track “Warlock” by animator Dave Merson Hess from Houston, Texas. While initially planning to tell a metaphysical ghost story set at night, Hess witnessed the devastation of Hurricane Harvey first hand and emerged only wanting to draw images of rain and flooding. With the help of his producing partner Janine Waranowicz, Hess reworked the video to convey a murkier narrative reflective of his personal experience.
“I wanted it to be meditative rather than horrific — in retrospect, maybe as a way to process the trauma of what had happened.”
