Created by Sang-won Leigh, Harshit Agrawal, and Pattie Maes from MIT Media Lab’s Fluid Interfaces research group, the Flying Pantograph combines input from human artists (via remote control) and the independent aesthetics of a drone to create a single drawing. The installation is an experiment in human-machine collaboration, with the drone not simply following the human subject’s instruction but actually contributing its own “artistic intentions” as it adjusts to air currents, friction, balance etc.
