Peruvian artist Renata Flores’ latest album, ISQUN (“Nine” in quechua), celebrates and re-examines indigenous identity by focusing on one Peruvian female historical figure per song. This video is a tribute to Maria Parado de Bellido, a martyr of Peru’s war of independence. “Beyond a literal retelling of the events of her life, we set out to create a portrait of a heroine, an impressionistic journey of her life and legacy, aiming to capture her boldness in the face of adversity, her sacrifice for the cause of liberty, and her re-birth through a new generation of audacious, empowered women and men.”
