“The Spirit of Jazz” looks at Sarathy Korwar’s journey as he establishes himself as an artist in Britain and how he uses his music and story to convey truths about diversity, representation and racism.
Sarathy is a US-born, Indian-raised, London-based drummer, producer, composer and band leader. Sarathy has established himself as one of the most original and compelling voices in the UK jazz scene. His music is predominantly based in jazz and Indian classical music but also incorporates elements of hip-hop and electronic music.
“The Spirit of Jazz” takes a deep dive into Sarathy’s practice, with a focus on his most recent album “More Arriving” and how he uses his work to overcome the stereotypes associated with being a brown musician in Britain.
