Lava La Rue – “Magpie”

Lots of nice details to this video for Lava La Rue by London-based director Milo Blake (previously featured here). “Magpie” is inspired by Bob Mazzer’s photography series Underground, which documented the eccentricities and characters of London tube life. As Blake explains further:

“We combined this with Lava’s desire to explore the idea of the Black British Punk. Together we decided to look at the broader definition of “Punk” as those who are innovators in there style, art and attitude ranging from early Soundsystem Operators of the 80’s through to Black Punk’s like Polysterene and the Two Tone movement onwards to the 00’s where inner city kids where carving out a new genre called Grime. We follow Lava and “the Magpie” along this journey, finishing on them as the final embodiments of that subcultural evolution, Lava, a leading light of the current crop from London’s scene and the Magpie as the future beyond that. A parallel subplot to this is the social movements and changing of London’s landscape that we feature in the midst of this.”
