Visionist – “Value”

The latest video from experimental producer Louis Carnell (aka Visionist). Directed by Frederik Heyman, “Value” explores the larger themes of Carnell’s album through a spectacle of self-struggle and self-saviour. Known for using 3D scans to insert real-world subjects into staged digital scenes, Heyman describes the project as a continuation of his photogrammetric techniques:

“Visionist and I focused on historic press images of people in the need of rescue. Visionist then reenacts these situations via numerous 3D scans that are processed into several digital installations, maintaining the original photographic stillness that is key to my work.”

Premiere: “What Am I Doing?” by Michael Gugger & Varvara Kane

Berlin-based filmmaker Michael Gugger and London-based performer Varvara Kane confront some of their shared anxieties about the future in this cathartic collaboration. Inspired by significant periods of change and uncertainty in their personal lives, the real-life couple set out to capture some of the conflicting emotions that have been plaguing them.

As Michael shared with us, while itching to embark on their chosen paths, “not knowing what our future held as a result of our decisions became intimidating and it led to a lot of self-doubt. With this film we wanted to evoke these feelings by capturing these emotions through sound and imagery.” It helped that they had a friend, Thomas Hart, whose artwork seemed to reflect their mood. They also enlisted another friend, Bruno Tormos, who took care of all the set design.

Watch “What Am I Doing?” above and check out some Behind-the-Scenes photos from the intimate shoot below!

“Xeno” by Shane Keeffe

Australian writer/director Shane Keeffe, and cinematographer Caleb Ware, make a seemingly mundane chance encounter between two strangers feel utterly epic in this cinematic short. The title is taken from Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows which defines Xeno as “the smallest measurable unit of human connection.” See everything that goes into a single passing moment above!
