Włodi & 1988 – “Wyobraź Sobie”

Lots of great visuals in this video for Włodi’s track with 1988 by Warsaw-based directing duo Krzysztof Kosz and Kuba Bujas. “Wyobraź Sobie” presents a perfectly unnerving perspective on the daily grind and what’s required of those dreaming of a good life and decent living.

“Finding Summer” by Justin Kaminuma

A beautiful project by Boston-based filmmaker Justin Kaminuma (previously featured here). Set to music by Deerhunter, “Finding Summer” offers a personal reflection on the disconnected moments experienced during quarantine:

“Equipped with just my camera gear and skateboard, I explored my Massachusetts suburb during the months of July and August. During such a prolonged and uncertain time, it’s easy to feel your sense of self and individualism slip away. I documented my surroundings to hold onto what I know.”

Laverne – “Matter of Tact”

Another video for Laverne by Vancouver-based filmmaker Zachary Lacosse (previously featured here). “Matter of Tact” is about personal responsibility, futility, and the uncertainty of taking steps forward. Fusing hidden meaning from the lives of both Lacosse and Laverne’s lead vocalist, the video explores how personal events are shaped by the added weight of global issues like the pandemic, industrialism, ecological and emotional collapse.

A fascinating meditation on the possibility of eternal life by Berlin-based filmmaker Spencer MacDonald. Novo Amor – “Opaline”

Lovely energy to this video for Novo Amor by New York City-based director Stefan Hunt (previously featured here). Shot at Mundi Mundi plains in Australia, “Opaline” captures that particular spirit and transitory feel of coming-of-age. As Hunt states:

“When I heard the track it took me back those feelings you get on the cusp of adulthood. The highs and lows of growing up. Particularly around letting go of your inner child. I wanted to capture that storyline on a road trip shared amongst close mates. For me those were and still are the most profound moments for growth and transition.”

“Running Through Life” by Craig Bingham

A different kind of quarantine project by Craig Bingham of Dadbod Films (previously featured here). “Running Through Life” is a touching portrait of Bingham’s mother and her relationship with horses. As Bingham explains, what started as a phone conversation during lockdown, turned into a reflection on family and the different paths our lives can take:

“Whilst chatting to her I never quite realised the sacrifices she made for us when we were growing up. I guess as children we never do. Animals have always been a big part of my life growing up on the farm. Mum and Dad were hard workers and still are today. From goats to jersey cows, all our animals held special characters. Me and my brothers earned our pocket money through mucking out the stables. But I never fully appreciated the special innate connection my Mum has with her horses”

“The Voices of Men” by Jonny White

UK-based filmmaker Jonny White raises awareness for mental health issues, particularly in men. As the film points out, men are twice as likely to die by suicide than women worldwide. And in many countries the ratio is even higher. In “The Voices of Men,” White encourages men to speak candidly about their personal experiences as a way of breaking the silence surrounding mental health and normalizing the act of men expressing how they feel in an intimate way.
