SBP4 – “We Have Everything to Live Forever”

Love this video for Russian band SBP4’s track “We Have Everything to Live Forever” by Moscow/New York-based director Gina Onegina. As she shared with us:

“The idea behind the visuals was very simple: a hugging orchestra. A band of performers playing their instruments and hugging each other at the same time. That’s how this orchestra operates.”

We have to shout out our friend Ken (@krpsy), the jacket that Jaden is wearing throughout the video was handmade by Ken and given to Jaden after a show. Not even sure Jaden knows who made it so just mentioning in case he sees this!

Hurray for the Riff Raff – “Pa’lante”

A beautiful short film by director Kristian Mercado Figueroa aka Kris Merc for Hurray for the Riff Raff’s track “Pa’lante.” Starring Mela Murder, the project was shot on location and held a lot of personal meaning for everyone involved, many of whom were of Puerto Rican descent. Kristian’s family was one of the many displaced by Hurricane Maria and the video is dedicated to his grandfather who passed away in the aftermath.

“The conditions on the island are still very poor. During the production we could all feel how painful it all was, how it’s been so long without enough help. The island is still strong, the people always positive, but you can’t help but feel the desperation and pain of the colonial condition, the sense of abandonment. Pa’lante is a very Puerto Rican mindset – be it a family struggling to stay together, or recovering from the hurricane, the Puerto Rican people are strong and they will always stand and move forward. And there is a beauty to that.”

Premiere: “Lust des Schöpfers” by Carles Pons Altimira

A haunting short by Barcelona-based director Carles Pons Altimira (previously featured here). Approached by the band Volans back in 2016 with the intention of making a music video, the project gradually transformed into something of a poetic experiment. Deciding to shoot in 16mm dictated a lot of what came after, including commissioning Marina Rubio, a young artist from Barcelona to create three characters shaped into masks. Volans took a similarly analogue approach with the music, collaborating and recording with film composer Simon Smith. As for the rest, Carles explains:

“The piece itself is conducted by an ethereal voice that recites extracts from the poem “The only one” by Karoline von Günderrode, a german poetess from the XVIIIth century. The poem revolves around the desire to have something unreachable.”
