Branded: “Circles” by Nicolo Bianchino

A fantastic looping animation by Brooklyn-based designer and animator Nicolo Bianchino. Created for Google’s on-campus store in California with music by Ambrose Yu, Bianchino explains:

“Using only circles I wanted to create a loose narrative that would engage with viewers watching for only a few seconds or for the entire loop. It creates a bold graphic moving backdrop for their retail experience and hopefully charms a couple of bee lovers too!”

We love branded content when it’s engaging, funny, innovative, beautiful or any combination of the above. Click here if you have a project you’d like us to check out!

HAND – “Lied von der Sehnsucht”

A vibrant abstract animation for Berlin musician Sascha Bachmann’s solo project HAND by Bristol-based artist Ruffmercy (previously featured here). The definition of a passion project, “Lied von der Sehnsucht” features a variety of tape loops including a recording of Bachmann’s own heartbeat. Having Ruffmercy do the video was similarly a reflection of Bachmann’s personal taste, as he shared with us:

“I love his raw style and the sketchy animations he created for a lot of artists in the underground music world and I am very happy he chose one of the tracks of Debut to make a video for. With his recognisable aesthetic he translated the sound into beautiful visual elements.”

This video was submitted by Sascha Bachmann and selected by our team. Consider participating here if you have a project you’d like us to check out!

“Offbeat” by Iqbal Ahmed

An inspiring portrait of musician Geno Oceano by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Iqbal Ahmed (previously featured here). Iqbal first met Geno through Can Do Musos — a global community that define themselves by their shared passion for music rather than their disabilities. A new member but “possibly the most passionate of the bunch,” Geno eventually entrusted Iqbal to tell his story, a gesture Iqbal regards as one of the “highest honors” in the business. Although key to Iqbal’s success is the humbleness of his approach and profound willingness to acknowledge his inability to do just that. As he shared with us:

“I think a lot of short documentaries sometimes oversimplify their subjects due to a short film’s time restraints. I really wanted to maximize Geno’s complexity. To acknowledge that I really CAN’T tell his entire story in four minutes. But I can show you diverse aspects of the man. That’s my attempt to show the most rounded person I can. And I also think that’s why the journey feels larger than the four-minute runtime.”
