Branded: “Algorithms” by Nicolas Ménard

A unique spot for UK startup Habito produced at Nexus Studios by artist Nicolas Ménard (previously featured here). The visuals are the result of a series of code that turn “graphical chaos into satisfying order,” a personal passion of Ménard’s. The fact that the highly technical process parallels the kind of algorithms used by the online company is something of a happy accident, as Ménard explained to us: “I wrote a book call Colorimetry in 2010 and made a film with algorithms using the data of colour. Somehow, this niche interest of mine got me involved in creating a TV commercial”!

“Street Racers” by Aurélien Heilbronn

New York City-based director Aurélien Heilbronn follows a close-knit community of illegal street bike racers in the Dominican Republic. With the help of composer Max Zippel, the documentary short goes beyond the partying and violence of gang life to offer an everyday look at these adrenaline-seeking kids. As Heilbronn shared with us:

“It is this paradoxical safe universe, created by them and for them that I wished to capture. Due to this complexity, I wanted this documentary to be hybrid. I did not want to fall into the folklore of clichés; my goal was to create something cinematic with a dark and sometimes disturbing tonality.”

This video is just one of the many amazing submissions we’ve received in the past week. Consider participating here if you have a project you’d like us to check out!
