Providence, Rhode Island-based filmmaker Calvin Xingpei Shen pays tribute to late Chinese singer Zhou Xuan with this short animation exploring the connection between personal identity and cultural heritage.

First Aid Kit recreate an American high school prom in their hometown of Stockholm for their latest music video. Directed by Mats Udd (previously featured here), “Fireworks” marks Udd’s fourth video for the Swedish folk duo.

A stylish short by Jeannie Nguyen and Andrew Yuyi Truong of Mosss. Set in the 90s, “First Generation” follows a young Vietnamese-American girl named My-Linh, who struggles to negotiate the two worlds she inhabits as well as her own sense of self.

A hilarious and painfully relatable short about the politics of friendship by Norwegian director Liv Karin Dahlstrøm. Actress Marit Adeleide Andreassen gives a particularly brilliant performance as Turid — a woman who attends her best friend’s birthday party only to realize she may no longer be one of her best friend’s closest friends.
