Premiere: “Making Movement with My Body” by Zika Liu

London/Shanghai-based filmmaker Zika Liu follows aspiring dancer Tanya Ferguson through her creative process and what it means for her to be a dancer. While Ferguson has yet to reach the level she hopes, Liu’s focus is more on Ferguson’s inner mindset and refusal to be defined or defeated by her current status rather than whether she ultimately finds outward success or professional recognition. As he shared with us:

Tanya’s pursuit of her dance career has met with many difficulties, she may still be far from her goal, but the journey itself is worth celebrating. This applies to all those who are chasing their dreams, no matter which stage they are at, they should be happy for themselves and never give up.”

Check out “Making Movement with My Body” above as well as some behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot below!

“Snow White Cologne” by Amanda Eliasson (Mature)

London-based animator Amanda Eliasson pays tribute to her sister in this impressionistic short created using acrylic paint on paper. As Eliasson explains:

“I wanted to tell her story in a non judgemental way, which is why the film tackles the difficult subject ‘drug addiction’ in a poetic and emotional manner rather than giving the viewer straight facts about the problematics of the disease.”

Branded: “It Has Matcha!”

An adorable stop-motion spot by Prague-based studio Krutart for Japanese green tea company Seicha Matcha. While the concept may seem simple enough — exploring the idea of how Seicha gets matcha in the bottle — according to creative director Martin Jůza it took more than a month and a half to produce:

“We combined the best from digital and analogue techniques in animation. First, we sketched, designed the characters, storyboarded. Then we made the whole set and props in 3D in order to create origami-style printed sheet. After two weeks of cutting and glueing we were ready to animate with more than 250 paper objects. When the animation was done, we went back to digital to retouch and postproduce.”

Check out the delightful results above and full credits below!
